Thousands of demonstrators protested in Baghdad and the holy cities of Najaf and Kerbala, calling for the death penalty for former president Saddam Hussein. A large number of supporters of Shiite rebel leader Moqtada al-Sadr took part in the protest, announced a few days previously by a committee of the regime's victims.
