Three brothers were hanged in Pakistan after President Pervez Musharraf rejected their plea for clemency. They had been convicted accused of murdering two brothers from another family. Waheed Ahmed, Saeed Ahmed and Khurshid Ahmed were hanged at 4:30 am in Mianwali in central Punjab province, 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Islamabad, Mianwali Jail Superintendent Munir Ahmed Kahloon said.
"There is a capacity to hang four convicts simultaneously in Mianwali prison and we hanged the three brothers Waheed, Khurshid and Saeed," Kahloon told reporters. "This is the first time that three brothers have been hanged simultaneously."
The trio had been convicted of stabbing brothers Muhammad Saeed and Muhammad Asghar, in the Punjab district of Sargodha in 1995 over a dispute involving the payment of 155 rupees (nearly three dollars).
Sargodha's district judge sentenced them to death in 1996, the verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court, and Musharraf rejected their mercy petition.
The victims' family, who could have pardoned them under Pakistani law in return for cash compensation, had also refused to pardon them.
