Three convicted former military officers, ex-Lt. Lamin Jarju, ex-Sgt. Lamin F. Jammeh and ex-Sgt. Alieu Bah, all sentenced to death for taking part in an alleged attempt to overthrow the government of President Jammeh in 1997, filed a notice of appeal against their sentences. The three were convicted by the High Court in Banjul after they were found guilty of committing a treasonable offence against the state. They filed a notice to the Gambia Court of Appeal seeking the court's leave to argue that their trial and conviction for the offence as charged was wrong in law.
