Three doctors and a hospital manager in Thailand were charged with conspiracy to murder patients for their kidneys. A Thai court is expected to hear the cases this week.
The doctors are accused of deliberately killing two patients who were in coma, and removing their kidneys in an organ theft-and-sales racket.
Two of the doctors and the hospital manager were also charged with falsifying letters from patients' relatives, consenting to kidney donations. The defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The trial is the result of a 4-year investigation prompted by suspicious relatives. They had found scars on the bodies of their family members who had died after being in a coma.
This is Thailand's first case in which doctors have been charged with murdering their patients. They face the death penalty if found guilty of the charges.
