Tran Van Chung, an unemployed man, was sentenced to death in Vietnam for killing a woman after she spurned his amorous advances. Chung, 26, was convicted by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court on Monday of stabbing his victim repeatedly in the chest in July 2002 at her home after she rejected another appeal for her to be his girlfriend. He then tried to commit suicide, stabbing himself in the heart but he failed to kill himself and was taken to hospital by his neighbour.
