Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the coalition's senior partner MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) Devlet Bahceli said the MHP backs the execution of death sentences in terror crimes.
Bahceli said that death sentences have not been executed in Turkey for years and the MHP also supports that tendency.
One of the trouble spots in Turkey-EU relations is the abolishment of the death penalty. The latest constitutional amendment [September 2001] limited the death penalty only to terror crimes and wartime cases. However, the EU finds that insufficient and demands a complete abolishment.
