Turkish Justice Minister Aysel Celikel sent a letter to the Nigerian the Justice Minister, Musa Elayo Abdullahi and the chief prosecutor urging them to exert efforts to stop the execution of Amina Lawal Kurami by stoning.
The letter said: "We have learned with concern that the death penalty became definite for Amina Lawal convicted of adultery. Islam sees a woman, whether single or married, as an individual in her own right. In addition, mothers in Islam are highly honoured. Islam and international human values recommend treating them in the best way. Despite her conviction, Amina Lawal is a mother first of all and should not be executed by stoning to death which is a cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment and not applied in most Muslim countries."
