A committee of Nepalis living in and outside the country informed about the collection of 10 million rupees (about 100,000 USD) as blood money to save the life of Anish Khaling Rai, a Nepali migrant worker who faces a death sentence in the UAE. The money was collected under 'Save Khaling Campaign'.
On 5 July 2013, a lower court in Abu Dhabi sentenced 23-year-old Rai to death for his involvement in the murder of a Pakistani national with whom he had a fight in a restaurant. The UAE court had demanded Rs 8.6 million as blood money to save Khaling.
