UAE: ABU DHABI STUDENT TO BE EXECUTED FOR MURDER

In UAE, an Abu Dhabi college student is to be executed for murdering his friend after the emirate’s court of cassation rejected his appeal, saying the sentence is final and will be carried out after it is endorsed by the President.
The court dismissed his pleas on the grounds he had committed a premeditated murder and there were no new developments that entail a fresh trial, adding that a new witness in the case made false statements.
The unnamed student shot his friend in the head a few days after they had a fight at a shopping mall in the Capital.
The Al Bayan daily, citing police and court sources, did not identify the defendant and the victim but said the court sentence was referred to the President for endorsement more than a year ago.
