UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: MAN HAS DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED

a man convicted of drug-related charges had his death sentence commuted to a 14-year prison sentence and Dh10,000 fine by the Fujairah Appeals Court in the United Arab Emirates. The 46-year-old Emarati man, A.A., faced two death sentences and four years in prison after he was convicted by the Criminal Court of importing and possessing hashish with the intent to deal. He was also convicted of consuming hashish. Police recovered Dh1,000 in marked currency and 21 grams of hashish, among other evidence. During police questioning, A.A., admitted to selling the drugs to the undercover police officer on a number of occasions, telling investigators he acquired the drugs from a neighbouring country.
