U.S. District Judge Vanessa Gilmore ordered a new trial for convicted killer Howard Paul Guidry after determining that his confession was involuntary and should not have been allowed to be used in his trial. Judge Gilmore ordered that Guidry be released from death row if the state failed to conduct a new trial within 180 days.
