Colbert County Circuit Judge Hal Hughston Jr. sentenced 24-year-old Peter Capote to death. Capote was found guilty April 24 of capital murder and 1st-degree assault in the March 1, 2016, shooting death of 19-year-old Ki-Jana Freeman. On April 26 (see) the jury voted 10-2 to recommend the death penalty.
