USA - California. 9th death row inmate dies of coronavirus: John Beames

San Quentin: 9th death row inmate dies of suspected coronavirus infection. John Beames died on Tuesday from a suspected case of COVID-19, marking the latest death in a coronavirus outbreak at San Quentin State Prison. Beames, 67, White, died at a hospital outside the prison from “what appears to be complications related to COVID-19,” according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Beames is the 9th death row inmate to die from a suspected case of COVID-19. Fourteen inmates at San Quentin have died and more than 2,000 were infected as of Wednesday. At the California Institution for Men in Chino, 19 inmates have died. Beames was sentenced to death in October 1995 in Tulare County in the January 1994 torture and murder of Cassie McMains, the 15-month-old daughter of his then girlfriend Angelita McMains. The girl's mother was sentenced to 25 years to life for allowing the abuse.
