An Alameda County jury recommended a death sentence for Darnell Williams, 25, Black, convicted of gunning down 2 people, 1 of them an 8-year-old girl at a sleepover. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Horner will decide in September whether he agrees with the recommendation or a life sentence without the possibility of parole is more appropriate. The victims were Anthony Medearis III, 22, and Alaysha Carradine, 8. Alaysha was at her friend's apartment for a sleepover on July 17, 2013 when Williams rang the doorbell just after 11 p.m., gun in hand. Prosecutors said Williams went to the apartment seeking revenge for the killing earlier the same day of his friend Jermaine Davis. He thought the ex-girlfriend of the man he believed killed Davis would be at the apartment that night and intended to shoot her.
