A Los Angeles County jury recommended that Gabriel Ronquillo, 39, Hispanic, be sentenced to death. Ronquillo, a Mexican Mafia hitman, was found guilty of the June 20, 1999, fatal shooting of David Borunda, a rival gang member, and of the Aug. 19, 2004, stabbing death of Gary Frausto. The first killing remained unsolved until shortly after Frausto was stabbed on Aug. 19, 2004. Ronquillo was arrested after the getaway car would not start. DNA from blood found on the defendant's clothing belonged to Frausto.
