A Riverside County jury recommended the death penalty for Emilio Manuel Avalos, 35, hispanic, a gang member. Avalos was convicted of the Dec. 19, 2001, slaying of 20-year-old Marine Cpl. Henry Lozano and the Dec. 21, 1994, shooting death of 17-year-old Jahi Collins. That same attack left Collin's friend Bobby Wilson, paralyzed. Superior Court Judge James Hawkins scheduled sentencing for Jan. 25.
