USA - California. A jury recommended the death penalty for Jesse Manzo, 26, Hispanic

A Riverside County jury recommended the death penalty for Jesse Manzo, 26, Hispanic, and Superior Court Judge Elisabeth Sichel today handed down the sentence. Manzo was convicted June 4 of 1st-degree murder in the May 2, 2008 killing of Raymond Franklin. According to trial testimony, the defendant targeted Franklin because the victim was black and had possibly made critical remarks about the all- Hispanic East Side Riva street gang, of which Manzo is an admitted member.
