The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the conviction and death sentence of Armenia Cudjo, 54, Black, in the 1986 battering death of a female neighbor because the jury wasn’t told that the defendant’s brother, Gregory Cudjo, had admitted the killing to a cellmate. Cudjo was sentenced to death in Los Angeles County on May 31, 1988 in the March 21, 1986 first-degree murder of Amelia Prokuda.
