USA - Christopher Scott Emmett was put to death tonight

Christopher Scott Emmett was put to death tonight. The 36-year-old Emmett, was sentenced to death for the April 2001 death of 43-year-old John F. Langley. Emmett beat Langley to death and stole $100 from his wallet to buy drugs. Last year Emmett gained reprieves 2 times within hours of his execution date (see also (see also Oct 17, 2007, Apr. 2 and May 14, 2008). Emmett becomes the 4th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Virginia, and the 102nd overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1982. Emmett becomes the 15th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1114th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
