USA - Delaware. A jury recommended that Leslie Small, 52, black, be sentenced to death

A Sussex County jury unanimously recommended that Leslie Small, 52,  black, be sentenced to death. Small was found guilty last week of killing June McCarson,  78, on a Nov. 11, 2009 attack his defense team said was fueled by crack cocaine. They had asked for a lesser verdict of manslaughter or 2nd-degree murder. But Small admitted killing McCarson, and prosecutors pointed out the use of drugs is not a defense. Superior Court Judge Richard F. Stokes has not yet set a date to sentence Small.
