A Clay County jury recommended 9-3 the death sentence for Michael Renard Jackson, 40, black, convicted in February for the January 2007 rape and murder of Andrea Boyer, 25. Circuit Judge William Wilkes scheduled an intermediary hearing May 19. Jackson had been released from prison 15 months earlier in the 1986 rape at knifepoint of a teenager. He served 20 years of a 30-year sentence after admitting that crime and referred to himself then as a "sexual monster."
