A Polk County jury has recommended 9-3 the death penalty for Joshua Lee Altersberger. Altersberger, 21, black, pleaded guilty on March 13 to killing Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Nicholas Sottile, 49, white, during a Jan. 12, 2007 during a routine traffic stop. It will be at least a month before Judge J. Michael Hunter makes a final decision.
