USA - Florida. Judge Howard Maltz sentenced James Colley to death.
Circuit Judge Howard Maltz sentenced James Colley, 38, White, to death. A jury unanimously recommended the death penalty for Colley Jr. on July 25 (see), and Judge Maltz followed that recommendation Friday. Colley killed his estranged wife, Amanda Colley, 36, and her best friend, Lindy Dobbins, 39, on Aug. 27, 2015. At a Spencer hearing in October, Colley apologized and called the killings a "terrible accident." A woman, Rachel Hendricks, survived the deadly rampage and testified that Colley showed up uninvited at the home, looking for a man he believed was in a relationship with Amanda Colley. Earlier that day, Colley had been ordered by a judge not to have contact with his wife, who had an injunction against him.
