Clay County Judge John Skinner sentenced Hector Gabriel Sanchez-Torres, 22, hispanic, to death.Sanchez-Torres pleaded guilty in April and then chose to have the judge decide his sentence without a jury recommendation. The judge decided Sanchez-Torres should die. Authorities said Sanchez-Torres fatally shot 19-year-old Erik J. Colon after robbing him in September 2009.
