USA - Mississippi. A jury sentenced Joseph David Heard, 41, Black, to death

May 10, 2024 - Mississippi. A jury in Harrison County sentenced Joseph David Heard, 41, Black, to death in the Dec. 27, 2021, killing of his 2-year-old stepson, Hayden Lee Bataille.
Heard’s wife, Hailey Lynn Bataille Heard, 24, is serving a life sentence for 1st-degree murder in her toddler’s death, all because the toddler soiled his diaper and took too long to get a juice box out of the refrigerator.
After testifying against Joseph, Hailey had her charge reduced from capital murder to 1st-degree murder, meaning she will serve life in prison. Judge Larry Bourgeois has not set a date for formal sentencing.
