USA - Nebraska. A jury recommended Melecio Camacho-De Jesus be sentenced to death

A Dakota County jury recommended Melecio Camacho-De Jesus be sentenced to death. The same jury convicted Camacho-De Jesus, 30, a Mexican national yesterday of first-degree murder in the May 23, 2009 brutal rape and killing of a 3-year-old girl, Evelyn Verdugo Paniagua. A three-judge panel will be appointed to sentence Camacho-De Jesus. The jury's decision gives the panel the authority to impose a death sentence. If the panel's decision is not unanimous, Camacho-De Jesus will receive a life sentence.
