A Pitt County jury sentenced Antwan Anthony to death. Judge Robert Hobgood formally sentenced Anthony to death, following the jury's recommendations. Anthony, 33, Black, was convicted on March 21st of three counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery for killing three convenience store employees on April 1, 2012. Two co-defendants testified against him. Anthony's defense attorney, Phil Lane, admitted that his client is responsible for the murder of 26-year-old Nabil Almajanahi, his nephew, 16-year-old Mokbel Almajanahi, and 24-year-old David Alawi inside the store. Surveillance video shows Anthony shooting the 3 victims execution style. Lane says his client suffers from mental illness and violent tendencies stretching back to when he was 4-years-old. Before this trial even started, Anthony also took a plea deal for 2-separate murders in Edgecombe County.
