A 3-judge panel in Lucas County Common Pleas Court sentenced Anthony Belton, 26, black, to death. Judges Ruth Ann Franks, James Jensen, and Gene Zmuda announced the sentence after deliberating for more than 7 hours. Belton was found guilty two days ago of aggravated murder and 2 counts of aggravated robbery as well as capital specifications and gun specifications in the Aug. 2008 killing of Matthew Dugan, 34, during a robbery at a gas station. He had pleaded no contest to the charges. In a plea of no contest, a defendant does not admit guilt but does not challenge the facts in the indictment.
