Joel Drain, 39, White, gets death penalty. Joel Drain, 39, White, pleaded no contest to the murder charges and specifications filed against him for murdering another inmate at Warren Correctional Institution in April 2019 and was sentenced to death on Monday by a three-judge panel in Warren County Common Pleas Court. Drain, who had previously been convicted in 2016 for the aggravated murder of 56-year-old Randy L. Grose and sentenced to “30 years to life in prison”, was also sentenced to another seven years for the non-fatal stabbing of his father. Drain beat Christopher M. Richardson, serving a four-year sentence for aggravated arson, with the motor from a desk fan, stomped on his throat and kicked a pencil into his eye. The judges accepted Drain’s plea of no contest and sentenced him to die after 5 1/2 hour trial.
