Hamilton County Judge Megan Shanahan sentenced Glen Bates, 34, Black, to death. A jury recommended a death sentence after only an hour of deliberation on September 28 (see). Bates was found guilty of charges including aggravated murder and child endangering in the death of his daughter 2 year-old daughter, Glenara. The cause of death was acute and chronic head injuries, battered child syndrome and starvation. The most serious head injuries, prosecutors said, happened when Bates swung Glenara into a door frame "like a baseball bat." The incident was described by Glenara's now-10-year-old sister during testimony. When she died on March 29, 2015, she weighed 13 pounds. Bates' onetime girlfriends, the girl's mother, 30-year-old Andrea Bradley, is scheduled for a possible plea hearing Tuesday. Tests show that Bradley has an IQ of 67, below the threshold for the death penalty.
