Poll finds Ohioans support death penalty, but results vary greatly with change of question. A poll of Ohioans released today found that nearly 70 % said they favor the death penalty for murderers. But when the question was phrased differently, execution remained the top-supported option, though more respondents said they would favor 1 of 2 forms of life imprisonment. When respondents were asked if they favored or opposed the death penalty for convicted murderers, 69 % favored it, while 25 % said they opposed it. When respondents were asked to chose between the death penalty, life in prison without parole or life in prison with parole possible, the results were much closer. 43 % of the respondents said they favored execution. But 40 % said they favored imprisonment without parole. Another 9 % would support the parole option. The poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University between May 7 and May 12, collected responses from 1,174 registered voters. Its margin of error is plus or minus 2.9 %.
