USA - Oregon. The Senate passed SB 1013 to restrict capital punishment.

The Senate voted 17-10 Saturday to restrict capital punishment. Actually, the Senate concurred in the House amendments and re-passed SB 1013 by a vote of 17-10. HB 3268 and SB 1013 would redefine aggravated murder to limit future application of the death penalty to certain acts of terrorism resulting in the deaths of two or more people and resentence those currently on death row to terms of life imprisonment without possibility of parole. The House Rules Committee adopted an amendment on June 18 that added murder of a police officer or other law enforcement official as a capital crime. The bill now goes to the Governor for her signature or veto.
