An Edgefield County jury sentenced former death-row prisoner Steven Barnes, 38, Black, to life in prison without parole. Barnes's conviction and death sentence had been overturned by the South Carolina Supreme Court on October 16, 2013 and his retrial took place this month. Barnes was convicted for the September 3, 2001 murder of 16-year-old Samuel J. Sturrup.
