Raymondeze Rivera, 34, Black, sentenced to life after death penalty overturned. After his death sentence was overturned by the South Carolina Supreme Court, Rivera chose not to go to trial again, pleading guilty to murder instead. In 2010, Rivera was convicted of killing Kwana Burns, but his conviction was overturned on February 13, 2013 (see) by the Supreme Court who said he should have been allowed to take the stand during his trial. In court today, it was determined Rivera was competent to plead. He waived his right to a jury trial, pleading guilty to killing Burns, and a judge sentenced him to life in prison. Rivera is already serving a life sentence in the death of Asha Wiley, which he was convicted of in 2008.
