Cecil Johnson Jr. was executed. He had been sentenced in 1981 for three murders – including a 12-year-old boy - committed in 1980 during a robbery of a convenience store. Johnson, 53, black, was convicted of 3 counts of 1st-degree murder for the deaths of the boy Bobby Bell Jr., and James Moore and Charles House, all blacks. Johnson becomes the 2nd condemned inmate to be put to death in Tennessee this year and the 6th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 2000. Johnson becomes the 49th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1185th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
