The House voted 73-22 to pass HB 0258 that would remove the appeal to the court of criminal appeals in death-penalty cases. If passed in the Senate and made law, the legislation would remove the appeal to the court of criminal appeals after a defendant is sentenced to death, a step that currently precedes the case being heard by the Tennessee Supreme Court.
