An Angelina County jury sentenced John Ray Falk Jr. to death for his part in the murder of a correctional officer. The Angelina County jury heard the Falk case because a change of venue was requested in the case. Falk, 50, White, who chose to represent himself, pleaded guilty to capital murder last Thursday for the Sept. 24, 2007 slaying of Texas Department of Criminal Justice employee Susan Canfield during an attempted escape from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Wynn Unit. A Leon County jury convicted co-defendant Jerry Duane Martin of capital murder and sentenced him to death in 2009. He was executed in 2013 after he waived his right to an appeal. Falk and Martin were captured a few miles from the prison later that day.
