Death row inmate Chris Wayne Shuffield resentenced to life in prison. Bowie County prosecutors chose to not seek the death penalty again for Chris Wayne Shuffield, 34, White, and he was resentenced to life. He's eligible for parole after 40 years. Shuffield was convicted of the July 29, 2001 shooting death of 36-year-old Lance Luke Walker. He was sentenced to death on February 5, 2003. Shuffield confessed to the slaying. His defense at his trial was the charge should have been murder and not capital murder. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals overturned his death sentence after a fellow inmate acknowledged he provided false information that was used during Shuffield's original punishment hearing.
