In the in September 2023 beating and stabbing murder of 18-year-old woman, Dejah Hood.

The Smith County jury found Jamaurea Jermaine Britton, 22, Black, guilty of capital murder Thursday (Oct. 22). Court documents show Britton admitted to beating Hood with a hammer, strangling her and stabbing her before throwing her body into a ravine. 

Britton’s defense team conceded that he planned the murder, but noted none of the jailers said he was a problem since his arrest and that he’s made improvements in jail.
