Richard Cobb, 29, white, was executed for fatally shooting 1 of 3 people he and a partner abducted during a convenience store robbery nearly 11 years ago. Cobb didn't deny using a 20-gauge shotgun to kill Kenneth Vandever in a field where 2 women also were shot and 1 was raped. He was convicted of capital murder. Nikki Daniels, 29, was raped and shot during the 2002 attack but survived to testify against Cobb. The Associated Press generally does not name victims of sexual assault but Daniels agreed to be identified. On Sept. 2, 2002, Kenneth Vandever and the 2 women were abducted from a store and taken to a field. All 3 were shot and left for dead. Vandever, 37, died, but the women managed to get help. Cobb and his partner, Beunka Adams, were arrested the day after the crime. Adams was executed on April 26, 2012 for his participation in the slaying. Cobb becomes the 4th inmate to be put to death this year in Texas, the 496th since the state resumed capital punishment on December 7, 1982, the 9th inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1329th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
