The United States Supreme Court issued a last minute reprieve for Cleve Foster, 47, white. Foster ate his last meal and was moments away from having deadly chemicals injected into his veins. Foster was convicted by a Texas jury of shooting 30-year old Nyaneur Mary Pal to death on February 13, 2002, in Tarrant County. Foster continues to maintain to this day that his friend Sheldon Ward was responsible for the murder. Ward, who was a recruit of Foster's, was also convicted for the killing. Ward got his death penalty in the form of cancer before the State of Texas got around to executing him. In their most recent appeal, Foster's attorneys claimed his conviction should be thrown out entirely because his trial lawyers had failed to hire a blood spatter expert which they believe could have resulted in a different verdict. The 2 men were also tied to the death of student Rachel Urnosky 2 months earlier. Foster claims he was unconscious at the time Pal would have been murdered. Supporters of Foster's cause say Sheldon Ward signed a confession in which he admitted to shooting and killing Mary Pal.
