Vaughn Ross, 41, Black, was executed. He had been sentenced to death on Oct. 1, 2002 in the January 31, 2001 fatal shooting, after an argument, of Douglas Birdsall, 53, and Viola Ross McVade, 18. Detectives said they linked Ross to the deaths after finding his DNA on the crime scene. Ross becomes the 10th inmate to be put to death this year in Texas and the 502nd overall since the state resumed capital punishment on December 7, 1982. Ross becomes the 20th inmate to be put to death in the USA this year, and the 1340th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
