The Senate has voted to expand capital punishment for the third time this session. Senators voted 33-6 to allow the death penalty for those who kill an auxiliary police officer or deputy while on the job. Earlier in the session the Senate voted to expand it to those who assist in a murder but don't do the actual killing and to those who kill certain fire marshals while they are on duty (see Jan. 27).
