Uzbekistan will work to extradite opposition member Muhammad Salih, President Islam Karimov told the press.
Salih has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for organizing an attempted attack on the president and terrorist acts in Tashkent on February 16, 1999. He was not present at the trial.
The Czech police arrested Salih at Prague's Ruzyne airport on November 28. He came to the Czech Republic from Norway, which had given him asylum, at the invitation of the U.S.-financed Radio Free Europe.
The organization Human Rights Watch has asked the Czech authorities not to extradite Salih to Uzbekistan.
