VIETNAM CONSIDERS REMOVING DEATH PENALTY ON 12 CRIMES

Vietnam is considering the possibility of abolishing the death penalty on 12 crimes, including smuggling, production and trade of food, foodstuffs and medicines, and bribe giving and taking, local newspaper Youth reported.
Under draft amendments and supplements of Vietnam's Penal Code being made by the country's Justice Ministry, other crimes not subject to capital punishment will include making, possessing, transporting and circulating counterfeit money, checks and government securities, organization of illegal drug use, and asset embezzlement.
The draft amendments and supplements will be submitted to the government for consideration in the near future.
