Visit Puengrasamee was sentenced to death after being found guilty of conspiring to murder businessman Kasem Khamwongsa, although the gunman he had hired mistakenly shot dead Kasem's adopted son, Chaiyakorn Maihom. The prosecution contended that Visit had conspired to kill Kasem in January 1996 after he refused to pay protection money for his stall in Warorot Market.
