Willie Nowell has been sentenced to death. Nowell was convicted late last year of killing Michelle Gill -- a pregnant woman -- and shooting her boyfriend Kelvis Smith once under each eye in 2002. Smith survived the shooting and identified Nowell and Jermaine Bellamy -- acquaintances of his -- as the shooters. The jury voted 7-5 to recommend the death penalty, and Circuit Judge Tonya Rainwater uphold the decision.
In addition to the death penalty, Nowell also received several life sentences for shooting Smith, for killing Gill's unborn baby and for kidnapping charges.
Bellamy, who is charged with similar crimes for his role in the murder, has not been brought to trial yet. His next court appearance is set for later this month.
