a Yemeni court in Taizz sentenced 16 people to death, including MP Ahmad al-Barati from the General People's Congress, for the 2009 murder of Ahmed Mansour al-Shawafi, the director-general of the Al-Khidair district. The court also acquitted four others. Al-Shawafi and two companions were shot dead by armed men believed to have been acting at the behest of al-Barati, who had allegedly opposed al-Shawafi's appointment as director-general of Al-Khidair.
