YEMEN. KIDNAPPERS SENTENCED TO DEATH

The paper also reported that other individuals accused of kidnapping tourists and foreigners were to be executed shortly.
A total of 14 foreign tourists had been abducted in Yemen over the past 2 months by tribesmen seeking the release of various tribesman detained by the Yemeni authorities. The tourists had usually been released peacefully. Between 1991 and 2001, more than 200 foreigners were abducted in Yemen.
