Zambian law provides for the death penalty for those convicted of murder, treason and aggravated robbery

1 MIN READ
Zambian law provides for the death penalty for those convicted of murder, treason and aggravated robbery. In 1999, 59 people including Captain Jack Chiti, were condemned to death for their role in the coup attempt on October 28, 1997. None have yet been executed and are unlikely to suffer this fate, since no politically-linked death sentences have been carried out since President Frederick Chiluba won power in 1991. Some of those at Kabwe have been on death row for up to 10 years, including the only woman sentenced to death in the country.
